A single block of raw Himalayan rock salt, hollowed out, lit from the inside with a low-wattage bulb. The light that comes out is amber — roughly the colour of a candle flame, with none of the fire risk. A room with one of these in the corner shifts from "lit" to "settled" the moment it comes on.

Best used as evening lighting. Switch it on when the overhead lights go off, and keep it on for the hour or two before bed. The amber tone cues the body toward wind-down (unlike blue-spectrum light from screens, which keeps you alert).

How bright does it get?
Not very — and that's the point. The bulb inside is 15W; the salt diffuses it into a soft glow. Enough to read beside; not enough to light a room on its own. Use it alongside a lamp if you need working light.

What are the therapy claims about?
Some sellers claim air-purifying or ion-emitting benefits. There's no robust scientific support for either. Buy it for the light and the quiet amber warmth — those are the real reasons.

Will the salt attract moisture?
In very humid rooms (bathrooms, basements without a dehumidifier) salt lamps can "weep" — release surface moisture. Keep it on a wooden coaster or a small tray, and in those rooms, run it for a few hours a day to keep it dry.

  • Wipe the crystal with a dry or barely damp cloth and dry immediately — never soak or rinse it, as salt dissolves in water.
  • Keep it in a dry spot away from humidity, steam and damp rooms; salt draws moisture from the air and can weep.
  • If the surface becomes damp, dry it and run the lamp to help it dry out.
